Natural Obstacle Course

All five team members must successfully navigate through (10) natural obstacles along the course.

Scoring Rules:Wolf Pack 11 r

  • This will be a timed event.
  • Riders will be scored on negotiating each obstacle.
  • Each Rider/Horse team will have time added to their overall time for faults incurred at obstacles.
  • Any judge may dismiss a participant at any time from an obstacle for safety reasons. No Rider/Horse team is allowed to go faster than a trot in wooded areas.  Only in grassy openings will a faster gait be allowed.
  • The obstacles must be executed as stated in the pattern.
  • Each Rider/Horse team is allowed a total of three attempts at each obstacle. The Rider/Horse team is subject to a time penalty for each unsuccessful attempt. If the horse refuses a third time, the participant is dismissed from the obstacle and will incur a 30 second penalty.
  • The definition of a refusal is a horse that moves its feet away (any direction) from the obstacle.  Looking and snorting are not considered a refusal. Pausing at an obstacle to sniff or investigate is allowed as long as the Judge determines that the horse is not balking.
  • If the Rider misses an obstacle, the Rider will receive a 30 second penalty

Time Penalties:

10 Second Penalty

  • refusing an obstacle
  • Not performing obstacle at correct gait
  • Not performing obstacle as written
  • Not completing obstacle

30 Second Penalty

  • If a horse refuses an obstacle a third time, the participant is dismissed from the obstacle and will incur a 30 second penalty.
  • If you are dismissed from an obstacle by a judge you will incur a 30 second penalty
  • Any obstacle that is performed unsafely will receive a 30 second penalty
  • Only trotting is allowed in wooded areas.  If you are caught moving at a faster pace each rider will incur a 30 second penalty
